Welcome To
Dan Welby

Dan Welby – Drummer, Educator, and Co-Owner of SoundCheck Music School

Dan Welby has been a driving force behind the kit since picking up the drums in 1992.

Starting from his garage as a teen in his home state of Massachusetts, he quickly

immersed himself in the heavy metal scene, performing with his metal band Hostile Groove.

In 1999, Dan made the move to Hollywood, California, with his band Hostile Groove to

pursue his passion full-time. He attended the prestigious Musicians Institute for Drums and Percussion, graduating and soon returning as a teacher and working in the metal guitar class. His expertise in rock and metal styles made him a natural fit.

It was not long before Dan was recognized for his versatility in his playing. Attending school was a major factor in developing his abilities to play more than metal. Dan has had the opportunity to perform with original bands such as ELECTRA, Time and the Dragon and Damn Hippie Freaks, as well as various cover bands. He has performed on most of Hollywoods world famous live stages and has played many festivals around the country.

Aside from performing, Dan began private teaching in 2002, starting with in-home lessons before working with local music schools. In 2014, alongside his wife, recording artist and vocalist Electra Barakos, he co-founded SoundCheck Music School in Canoga Park, Los Angeles. The school emphasizes real-world performance preparation, offering private lessons, rock band programs, and multiple live student shows each year to give aspiring musicians the ultimate rockstar experience.

Throughout his career, Dan has remained active as a professional touring and session drummer, performing live shows, recording EPs and albums, and appearing in music videos across a wide range of projects.

He is currently playing drums for multiple bands:

Forever Rod (Rod Stewart Tribute Band)

Rock of Ages (70’s/80’s Cover Band)

ELECTRA (Original Artist)

The Hyland Church Band (Original Artist)

The KnockOffs (Classic Rock Cover Band)

Gravel (Rock Cover Band)
